Sofia Ouhri Week 6, Ten Best

  1. Nice work, really. You play with foreground and background so well, another dreamy week of pictures. Taking them at an amusement park could of gone too busy but you did well with shooting to where there wasn't too much information. To me, your sixth, seventh, and eighth pictures are just perfection. The objects that rest closer to the viewer add so much depth to the scene and the children are more interesting because of this relationship the juxtaposition creates.

  2. wow I love this as a series, it feels so cohesive and part of one concept and trip and idea. I know it wasn't planned (maybe it was) but the fact that theres no clouds in the sky and just a gradient of gray scale makes the action and focus so much more clear and graphic in the photographs. The contrast is so strong in all of them, I have nothing remotely negative to say! I think you found an awesome balance of candid and planned out shots.

  3. All these photos work together so well! The composition of the photo with the slide is great, it captured the feeling of childish fun we can all relate to. The timing of the picture with the ship ride is flawless, it gives the thrilling notion of the ride just finishing the drop part of the rotation. The choice to omit the entire ride in the same photo was well thought out, since the closer look allows the viewer to take in every detail of the ride itself. Including the two white beams that support the ship in the picture makes the ride feel more grounded as well, despite the fact that the ride itself is suspended. I also love your first photo, the decision to crop part of the sign for the ride and part of the ferris wheel itself creates a side by side and foreground/background juxtaposition that is really pleasing.

  4. The clarity, tones, and composition in your photographs are exceptionally strong, especially since the carnival setting lends itself to busy and quick movements from the people and rides that you were able to capture in an impressive manner. The fourth photograph of the boat ride possess interesting contrast in lines from a geometric frame and the curves of the boat. The fish tank in the sixth photograph has this gorgeous glow which provides a whimsical yet mysterious response when I peer in. Then I am reminded that these fish are destined for an ill fate we all can affirm through past experiences especially in the context of a carnival. I love the this transition from the awe to reality that it produces.

  5. This is an incredible series! Your focus, playing with foreground and background, tonal range and composition are all excellent! I cannot stop staring at the 6th image- the way the bright fish tank in the foreground contrasts with the darker background and the expression on the children's face tie this photo in so well that it seems to tell a story. Kudos and keep up the great work!
