You have a set of very cohesive pictures as transit can be seen in every one of these. The scenes in six, seven, and eight are really well composed and interesting to look at. These are parts of the day that can be annoying or just generally disregarded. People are often in their own heads when going about them and this is definitely supported by some of the absent stares you recieve when photographing these subjects. However, the first and last pictures could use a wider range of values and some pictures, though very nice like six and seven could use a better focus.
Your transit photographs are very genuine and clearly acknowledge its significance, especially in these subjects' lives. They all appear to be weighted nicely, although small things like the tree in the third photograph should be avoided as to not "block" the content of the image. There is large potential with the idea of transit and there is room to find more interesting scenes.
Now knowing your concept, my impression of this week's set was one of awe. The sheer variety you were able to obtain even though the subject matter was so similar is astounding. What particularly struck me is the distinct postures of the different figures. It reminded me that transit's purpose of arrival at a location, and one only puts in the effort to move if there is somewhere to go, some force driving the individual. The woman with her shoulder holding the cellphone was especially striking, because it shows multitasking and the fact that we're often unaware just how much motion and displacement plays in our daily lives - it's unconscious in a way. The two boys sitting on the shopping cart adds a little spice to the mix; one has to wonder how the cart got there, who moved it? Where is it from? And so on. Even inanimate objects are engaged in transit.
I like that even tho some of your pictures are of similar situation (i.e. waiting at a bus stop) they are very different. The contrast in you're images are just the right amount of light and dark. It gives your images a drastic look.

ReplyDeleteThese all work so well with your concept. Photo 2 is my favorite; the composition, detail, and moment captured is great.
